The final battle of Sailor Moon vs Galaxia, the manga version is epic, moving and waterfall tears inducing 0-0 oh yeah and I'm including the sacrifice of Eternal Sailor Moon to destroy Chaos, I was moved to tears, especially after Galaxia became good and died at peace because she was inspired by Sailor Moons will to live and go on T-T

Oh man, yes. :( Talk about a tearjerker moment; Sailor Moon is full of them. Usagi is really the ultimate idealist, always sacrificing herself for others and always coming back. No wonder she was symbolized as a Christ figure in Sailor Moon S or the Infinity arc in the manga series. Her encounter with Galaxia proved that she has no limits; considering Chaos was an omnipotent being.

Finally, details about the new Sailor Moon anime emerge



It's been a year since an all-new Sailor Moon anime was announced, and since then, nothing. So we're not sure how accurate these new announcements will end up being, but just in case: The series begins this winter, and it will contain a new adventure of the Sailor Scouts.

This news was announced at the second Sailor Moon 20th Anniversary Event, as Kodansha editor Fumio Osamo stated the series would be "a new direction" compared to the previous anime. It was also announced that the TV show would stream worldwide on the Japanese video site Nico Nico Douga. Whether the series will have subtitles has not been determined, so you might want to start brushing up on your Japanese.

Let's get one thing straight, people, there has never been one bad version of Sailor Moon. The musicals were great, PGSM was great, the anime is superb and the manga is the greatest series ever drawn on paper. SO! That being said, the statement that the new anime will be going in a, and I quote: "NEW DIRECTION" means this is going to be the best Sailor Moon yet.

I'd also like to comment on Doug Walker aka The Nostalgia Critic's review on Sailor Moon as a whole, since so many people asked me on dA and Facebook. To be honest? He doesn't understand the series at all. Or anime for that matter if you've been watching his videos since the beginning. It's the same nitpicking entertainment you'd come to expect. As usual, no proper research was done.  He expressed dislike for Sailor Moon during his top 11 hottest animated women video from back in the day. Placing Sailor Moon on the list just because of the transformations, which aren't sexy. If it were an Outer Sailor Senshi henshin, then I'd understand. :D

In short, there's not much to say really. Doug aims to tackle as many fandoms of possible to sort of get people to say "Wow...our beloved series ain't so great after all." I would do a much better job at picking apart the series (most of you who went to Otakon with me know I poke fun at Sailor Moon all the time). Even so, there's too much good that overpowers the cheesy. Sailor Moon is art; a masterpiece of spectacle and storytelling as the series progresses. The funny thing is, it's more about the characters than it's perfectly executed spectacle. So you're getting the best of everything that makes anime entertaining. At least Doug acknowledges the success Sailor Moon has, so he's not completely closed-minded. You just need to look past it's surface of mahou shoujo flash in Sailor Moon and attempt to understand it's impact on just about everything in our fandom.

I thought the covers were really good, except for Ai No Senshi (that played during the Sailor Senshi vs. Rubeus and the Ayakashi Sisters battle from Sailor Moon R; and the scene from Sailor Moon S when Haruka and Michiru drove Usagi to Tokyo Tower). They kind of screwed that one up. Whoever did La Soldier from Sailor Moon R did a fantastic job! Even Otome no Policy's original upbeat sound is changed to a more melancholy version. These remixes really fix the 2010s era, probably why they made this collection. Will we hear these in the anime remake? I sure hope so! It's a wonderful sign of respect to the original, groundbreaking anime series.

With the anticipation around the Summer's planned stream of the long-awaited new Sailor Moon animated series adaptation, the attempts to build hype with a countdown earlier on Thursday were well-intentioned, but backfired horribly when it was discovered that the site hosting the countdown held all of the important files that weren't meant to be revealed until the end of the planned countdown. What was so important that had to be kept under wraps for eight days were it not for the tireless sleuthing of the internet?

It's nice to see more Sailor Moon merchandise show up at F.Y.E. (For Your Entertainment) stores everyone. Here are fresh new releases of Sailor Chibi-Moon (Chibiusa), Sailor Jupiter (Kino Makoto) and Tuxedo Mask (Chiba Mamoru) plush.

Here is some news artwork and news for Sailor Moon Crystal! WOW! I'm saddened that none of the original voice cast for the Inners will be returning. Hisakawa Aya, Tomizawa Michie, Shinohara Emi and Fukami Rica. Rica is the biggest loss of all since nobody brought more life to Minako's voice than Rica-san. But at least Kotono is back and the new cast is promising. They're all good, but the best new casting choice is definitely Ami Koshimizu as Sailor Jupiter/Kino Makoto. She played Nina Wáng in 'Mai-Otome' and Ryuko Matoi in 'Kill la Kill', so you know she's better than average! And if anyone can take up the mantle of Emi-san, it's Ami-san.

Again, the artwork is PERFECT and just how I imagine the reboot to look. This is gonna be anime of the decade by default.

"Director Munehisa Sakai and original editor Fumio Osano were on hand at this weekend's Nico Nico Choukaigi for the introduction of the main voice actresses in the upcoming Sailor Moon Crystal anime.

Kotono Mitsuishi (also known as Evangelion's Misato, One Piece's Bao Hancock and recently Gundam Build Fighter's Rinko Iori) reprises the role of Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon. She's joined by a renewed group of Inner Senshi that includes Hisako Kanemoto (Squid Girl, Gargantia's Amy) as Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury, Rina Satou (A Certain Scientific Railgun's Mikoto Misaka) as Rei Hino/Sailor Mars, Ami Koshimizu (Kill La Kill's Ryuko Matoi, Code Geass' Kallen) as Makoto Kino/Sailor Jupiter and Shizuka Itou (Hayate the Combat Butler's Hinagiku Katsura, Gurren Lagann's Boota and Darry, Jormungand's Koko Hekmatyar) as Minako Aino/Sailor Venus.

New details about the anime's scheduling were also announced. The first episode debuts July 5th at 7:00pm, then the anime will run on the first and third Saturday of the month going forward. a World-wide simultaneous will stream on Niconico Douga."

Viz Licenses Original Sailor Moon Anime Franchise



North American anime distributor Viz Media announced after its Anime Central panel on Friday that it licensed the original Sailor Moon magical girl anime franchise. The streaming, digital, and home video licenses include all 200 episodes from the five television series, the three feature films, and the assorted tie-in specials. This will include the first North American release of the final television series, Sailor Moon Sailor Stars.

Viz is offering the franchise without edits in its original uncropped 4:3 aspect ratio, with the original Japanese names, story elements, and relationships. It is also producing an uncut English dub with a new voice cast.

Viz aims to release the franchise digitally with English subtitles starting this summer, followed by the English dub starting in late 2014. It also plans DVD and Blu-ray/DVD combo releases in half-season sets starting this fall.

The first four television anime episodes will stream with English subtitles on Viz Media's NeonAlley.com service and the Hulu Plus service on Monday. Two more episodes will then debut every Monday ("Moon-day," as Viz's representatives deemed it).

Viz will celebrate "Sailor Moon Day" on Saturday, July 5 (the same day that the new Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal anime premieres worldwide) at Anime Expo. Viz will host panels with announcements of the new dub cast and staff, as well as what Viz hopes will be the world's largest Sailor Moon cosplay gathering.

Viz notes that the above trailer features a preview of the voice actresss for Sailor Moon in the new dub. Original manga creator Naoko Takeuchi will personally approve the new dub's cast.

Takeuchi launched the original magical girl team manga series in the shōjo monthly manga magazine Nakayoshi in 1992. It soon spawned anime, a live-action television project, musicals, and other adaptations, and it also sparked a worldwide boom. The 20th anniversary project began in 2012, and featured the first musical in eight years at the AiiA Theater Tokyo last September. Kodansha has been republishing the original manga in a complete edition since last November, and Kodansha USA Publishing's Kodansha Comics imprint has been publishing the manga in North America.

It's a shame FUNimation didn't get Sailor Moon, yeah. I was certain they would after tons of hinting on their fan forum. I don't know how Viz Media ended up winning the bid, but FUNimation will be kicking themselves for a long time over this. Nah, that's wrong to say. In the end, Sailor Moon and Sailor Moon Crystal will raise stock for the anime industry in general, so everybody wins in the end.

How is it that my expections were surpassed immensely? Sailor Moon really is the anime that can do no wrong. The music is great, the animation is pretty with more frames, the colors are vibrant, Kotono's voice is just as amazing as it was in the 1990s and the Sailor Senshi look fantastic! PERFECTION. Just imagine what the actual series will be like! O_O My mind went BOOM.

The Legend Returns.

Today is July 5th, the worldwide debut release of Sailor Moon Crystal, which can be see on Hulu for free (okay, you have to deal with those pesky ads...). As mentioned about thousand times, I've been waiting for over 14 years for this moment. Longer if you count the last Japanese air date of Sailor Stars. Was it worth it?

But I'll be honest here! I'm not at all surprised SMC turned out better than expected. The Sailor Moon franchise never failed to deliver in any of it's many incarnations; whether it's the original anime, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, the Sera Myu musicals and especially the manga, it always delivered great storytelling with amazing characters that stay within our collective minds forever. Sailor Moon Crystal's opening episode is low key in premise, but the presentation is rich beyond comprehension. We open to a shot of the entire universe, space itself. Then the galaxy (ours to be exact), the solar system (a taste of things to come, eh?) and finally the Earth and the Moon. This opening sequence alone puts you in the right atmosphere with it's mystery and epic feel. It is from here that everything that transpired in the original manga finally decides to leave the pages of your books and come to life in their truest, most brilliant form.

We immediately start off with Usagi dreaming about a beautiful woman who resembles her. Talk about narcissism! :3 We get all the trimmings here with classic Usagi waking up, being late for school, seeing Ikuko-mama (looking fabulous with her new alternate colors, as does...), Haruna Sakurada scolding (Haruna-sensei was one of my early anime crushes as a kid) and of course, running into Luna! Usagi's meeting with Luna is taken right out of the manga; even kissing her! CHU! I always thought Luna getting hassled by a couple of Shin Chan kids in the original didn't fit since she would never allow herself to get manhandled like that. Manga Luna would of cut those faces up! Anyway, it's not long until we see Usagi's classmates (including her best friend Naru-chan and the nerdy Umino) talking about Sailor V and jewelry.

We head over to good ol' OSA-P jewelry store, which is owned by Naru's mother. Or is it? During a massive sale, we learn that Naru's mother is secretly a youma from the Dark Kingdom. Haha..."learn". We all know this sequence quite well! Still, it's awesome seeing a darker introduction for Jadeite. We don't even see Queen Beryl yet, a major plus in my book. Showing only Jadeite gives him more presence and adds more looming mystery around The Dark Kingdom. Upon leaving OSA-P, Usagi unknowingly tosses her "30" marked exam right in the face of Chiba Mamoru, who doesn't introduce himself yet. The next part happened to be my favorite scene in the entire episode, as trivial as it was. Usagi heads over to Crown Arcade to play the Sailor V arcade game. I love the nods to Sailor V throughout the entire episode. First in the newspaper Ikuko-mama reads, then the friend chatter and now this. The Sailor V game itself is no longer an 8bit shooter, but a platformer with modern 2D sprites! Haha! So much care went into this episode, I swear. Motoki shows up during this scene as well (doi, he does work at Crown!) and it's nice to see him.

Later that night, Naru-chan falls prey to the youma disguised as her mother and Usagi has to save the day! But how? Simple! After Luna introduces herself and thanks Usagi for removing the band-aids from her crescent moon forehead (which prevented her from speaking), she gives Usagi a beautiful brooch which she uses to transform into a Sailor Guardian herself! Her odangos begin to flash; hearing Naru-chan cry out for help. It would of been cool to see the all-seeing goggles from the manga instead. She could have the super sonic odango after the fact, but the goggles would of been a cute nod to the manga. Usagi rushes over to OSA-P and thanks to Luna panning the camera over to the crescent moon, Usagi announces her super heroine name to the world.

You got to love how the Youma summons the possessed civilians in this version. In the original anime, they should of just appear. In this, they all rise and walk in creepy fashion towards OSA-P like zombies. Though Sailor Moon eventually becomes the strongest fictional character ever made, she didn't start out that way. She doesn't handle her first fight too well, just like in the original anime/manga. Tuxedo Kamen (Mask) and Luna encourage her to defeat the enemy with her Moon Tiara Boomerang! This sequence, including the henshin sequence, look much better than the original anime. The instrumental is also more epic than ever before, although I do think Takanori Arisawa's music can never be replaced. The late composer was the John Williams of anime for sure. But I do like the modern feel of Sailor Moon Crystal's soundtrack so far.

Sailor Moon Crystal is gorgeous, wonderfully drawn, fast paced and visually stunning. Some were wondering when this version of Sailor Moon mythology takes place. At first I thought it was going to stay in the early 1990s like the original anime and manga, since there was a lack of mobile and tablet use (thank goodness) throughout the episode. That didn't turn out to be the case. Look below:

This young lady sure isn't holding a beeper! Or one of those brick Motorola phones with the rubber antenna! That is a modern day cel phone, so I'm guessing the series take places in modern 2014. Not that it matters; the story of Sailor Moon can be told in just about any timeline in the 21 century. It's not like there was a MASSIVE leap in all aspects of our way of living between 1991 and now.

Sailor Moon Crystal succeeds in every way. This debut was strong, with great voice acting performances, including the legendary Kotono Mitsuishi as Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon. I can't imagine a more perfect voice to breathe life into the iconic character than her. She brings her A-game as usual. I'm looking forward to the rest of Sailor Moon Crystal, so expect reviews for the entire series! Moon Prism Power, Make up!!! The Legend is Back and this time, she's here to stay!
