Lara Croft x Sam from Tomb Raider 2013! Normally the protagonist goes after an artifact in these types of stories like Dr. Jones. Lara's treasure in this game is her canon girlfriend. The Hell Lara went through just to save her is unreal. Play the game, you'll know what I mean.

Probably they were just in denial.

Denial is part of it. :) They're just so used to the old Lara being heterosexual. Um...the old Lara always killed men and very little women. Even in the Angelina Jolie films. Foreshadowing, mayhaps?
