With that tidbit of info aside, I'm here to bring the forum a new project!


Mai-Hime Re-Dub Project

First off, why?

Because we all know that the Bandai dub sucked and that the forum members have better voices for the characters.


So who's gonna voice who?

I'm gonna hold auditions for the characters, each member will read off a few lines from the script, record it and send it to me so I can post them for a decision. Even people such as Hollow would have to audition for the role of Natsuki even though it has already been decided.

How long is it gonna take to finish it?

It's what I would call a "Summer Project". So I plan on the finished product by the end of summer at least.

Do I need a specific program to record myself, or format?

Not really, but you can use Vista's built-in "Sound Recorder" or use Audacity.
You can also use other programs if you like, such as Adobe Soundbooth or Audition.

For file format, I would like to have .wav format for the recordings.

How exactly do you plan to do this?

I'll give you a simplified overview.
Step 1: Extract the subs from the MKV anime file and create the script for each episode.
Step 2: Hold auditions for the parts by giving a few lines from each character for the member to record.
Step 3: Assign the cast members and distribute the scripts.
Step 4: Collect recordings of the lines and assemble them along side the Jap dub audio to match the timing in Vegas Pro 9.
Step 5: Assemble the background music along side the Jap track with the OST files.
Step 6: Add the sound effects and do minor adjustments.
Step 7: Publish the episode to the MaiMultiverse Livestream Channel for viewing full length.
Step 8: Go back to Step 4 for the next episode.

This doesn't include all the converting I'll have to do, but that's something I can leave Dawn on all night to do.

Do you need any help?

Of course! Since Kara already does the Abridged series of Mai-Hime, I'd love to have her help on this project when it comes to sound effects and other stuff.
I'll need the whole cooperation of the forum to help get this project done; ie. record their lines and send them in on time.
And this really is a whole forum project since we're gonna put our label on the finished fan-dub.

Yes. There are a lot of background characters to voice so if you can get some of your IRL friends to assist us on those parts, that would be wonderful. I myself am going to recruit some of my friends to help with the extras lines.

Background Extras:
Anons; basically if you already have a part or don't want a big one, take an extras job.
You get to sound as retarded as you like; just to change the sound of your voice to not match the character you're dubbing.
Ex. "Attention passengers. It appears that a fire has broken out on the vehicle deck."

Eventually we'll do Otome, but for now I want to practice with Hime and figure out the best way to make it first before we start Otome. ;D
AKA. Once this gets done, then we start on Mai-Otome Re-Dub.

Oooh, Mikoto! That won't be hard, it's easier to do crazy, fun-loving characters, rather than... Like serious ones haha. (When we were doing the casting for MHA, I wanted to be Mikoto, but Katie's voice for her made me almost piss myself, so I had to let her do it.)

Yeah that'd be great. I've found that Megafire is better for downloading small audio, IMO.
I have the OST for all HiME and Otome, so I think I'm good there.

Well, it isn't exactly a small audio file...I'm sending you a ZIP file of most of my sound FXs, there are others I'm sure, but I don't remember where I have them saved. Usually if I need something specific, I have to search for awhile hahaa.

So, Neg. What does it entail?

Basically, I send each member a PM with a video of the original jap dub and lines to read.
It's only a small part of an episode, not a whole one. ;D

So, how do you want the voices to sound?

As close as possible to the jap dub, in the way the voices express emotion.
Ex. Midori is super enthusiastic so she shows it in her voice.

How are you going to judge the roles?

Well, all members have to submit a audition even if they are alone in their role.
I'm gonna host the audition recordings on ProjectDerpStorm and link them to the FB group for voting using the poll feature.

So, wait. The people who have their roles already, like Hollowed-Words as Kuga, have to audition?

Yep.

Oh, well... When are we gonna get our auditions?

Don't worry though, I'll include it with the scripts when they are distributed.

Why?

When I tried exporting the script in any other format, the "actor" descriptor didn't get exported with the lines.
So, if you just use the original format, you can read the lines with the actor attached. So you know which lines are yours!

I'm prepared to read my lines at any time. :) You heard the quality of my mic on Skype, which wasn't too bad I hope. For projects like this the audio needs to be top notch.
