Recommend FanFiction [Mai-HiME + Mai-Otome]

As you know, there are fanfics not always focused on ShizNat. I've had the pleasure of reading some interesting stories this past week. Most of which involved Alyssa/Miyu and Akira Okuzaki. I will share some of them (mostly one-shots) in the near future. For now, a shameless plug of my own story:

I've returned to fanfiction after such a long hiatus. The last one I wrote was a year ago, which was very personal regarding Setsuna Meioh from Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon. This time, I'm going to allow my creativity to be out in the open. Starting with my new story, "Glory of the Valkyries" Or "GOTV" for short.

The story is based on real life event during the American Civil War, mostly with elements from the 1989 film Glory. Only this time, the characters from Mai-HiME and Mai-Otome take on the roles. Even as a International reader, I hope you'll find interest in the story. If anyone has any questions about it, feel free to ask. It's usually a movie they show during history/social studies class. In the States anyway. lol I'm coming over tomorrow, let me know what you think! And to answer your obvious question, yes there is Nao! ^_~ She made her debut in Chapter 3.

Thanks! lol Haruka's speech is based on an old wrestling promo. It fits the overall theme and it's something Haruka would say, considering her aggressive, egotistical yet envious character.

Recommend FanFiction [Mai-HiME + Mai-Otome]

Thanks to two very diverse stories, I decided to make this thread. We had a recommendation thread for ShizNat fanfiction, now recommend everything else in the Mai-Multiverse! Harukino, MaiZuru, Nagi x Nina, etc.

I'm going to recommend a set that I know judamacaby would recommend as well, since she was the one to tell me to read them in the first place. It's a series of 4 pieces that connect HiME to Otome and they are wonderful, though I've only gotten up to halfway through The Calm. The author is Ange Sinistre, and you can find the fics here:

Antipode- a pre-KH story focusing on Natsuki and Shizuru, but it sets up for the events in Kyoto Hunt.

The Kyoto Hunt- former HiME versus the very first Otome, the precursor to what we all see in Otome, and attempts to explain how Otome came to be, which I think it does a damn fine job at.

The Calm- An in-between piece that focuses on little stories for various characters and takes place before and after KH (even before HiME in some cases), but before Mai Kisaki.

Mai Kisaki- Is supposed to take place after Otome. I've not read this one yet, as I've said above, but I have no doubt that it is just as amazing as the ones before it.

This is exactly what I was about to post. Fumi I love her stories. (...I re-read this post and have yet to figure out why the hell I wrote 'Fumi' there. I decided to leave it in case someone could enlighten me.)

OK. I don't understand WHY, but none of you seem to have read these stories. Rachel recommended them, and I'm about to re-recommend them.

Antipode is the first in this series. It was written while it's sequel "The Kyoto Hunt" was still going. It starts off telling basically what happened with Shizuru and Natsuki after the carnival. This story presents Shizuru in a new light from what we've mostly seen. She's not a spoiled, perfect, rich princess as most of the stories portray her. This is one of the main reasons I was enamored by the story, among other things. One of the running themes in this story is mutual loneliness which I think is such an amazing concept.

The Kyoto Hunt is the second in the series. This is one of the only stories I have ever read that has connected HiME and Otome in a believable and coherent manner. It isn't without plot-holes, of course, but they are few and far between. This story covers the HiME's struggle against the rise of Searrs and their takeover. The Calm is a series of six fairly short one-shots that range from fluffy to sad to humorous. They're basically just a few side-stories that will impact your read of the final story, Mai Kisaki, greatly.

Mai Kisaki is the final installment in the series, and it is one giant whirlwind of emotion. It is the distant sequel to The Kyoto Hunt, and the immediate sequel to the Otome anime. There's not a lot of romance, but there are some very touching moments, some interesting plot twists, and a whole lot of crying. I can't really say much more because I don't want to spoil anything.

I've kind of accepted these stories as my own personal canon.


Regarding the HiME series itself, I don't believe that Shizuru actually raped Natsuki. However, one of my all-time favorite stories deals with what could have possibly happened had she done so.

Windows of the Soul is a seventy-seven chapter fic full of angst, action, forgiveness, and reconcilliation. It starts off sort of slow, picks up for a few chapters, and then slows down again, only to pick back up in a thrilling finale. It has a few memorable original characters that don't take away from the story, but actually make the story that much better. Again, this is probably my all-time favorite HiME fic, and the last twenty-five or so chapters will make the build-up worth it.

The stories of Ange Sinistre are truly amazing! I read it years ago, probably it's time to do it again XD

My recommendation is for this one, a short story a friend of mine from France wrote. It's short but kind of cute, very Twilight Zone-style ^^

The odd thing is that I've written a song for my band that has the same name, before I knew this piece of writing o.O I believe this author and I are somehow connected^^When I read the story, I also noticed some similiarities to my own. We both have the same idea of a Natsuki and Nao story I suppose.

And I will also give a link to a great ShizNat story because I love them too.

For me it is the best ShizNat I've ever read. Sadly, this was never finished. But it's still worth reading.
