This is the post where I talk about the other side of my anhedonia. Yes, there is another side to it, because my brain makes no sense.
- A bunch of rambling:
- Even with everything I've mentioned so far, anhedonia is having an interesting effect on me. Logic dictates that it would be ruining my life, right? Well, it's having some kind of reverse effect. I'm actually less negative since getting it. While I acknowledge that anhedonia is problematic, especially if it persists, there being a positive effect from having it is truly quite bizarre. I've never read about any cases like this. Of course, considering the limited amount of information on anhedonia, maybe I am some kind of minority special case.
Anhedonia is supposed to be associated with negative thinking. Without being able to enjoy things, it seems most humans become heavily crippled and stop caring about anything. In my case, I suspect my medication could be helping me cope with it, though I have no idea which one and I can't explain what is scientifically happening to my own brain to produce this abnormal effect.
The negative thoughts don't seem to be completely gone though, which furthers my suspicion that my anhedonia is temporary. Since my negative thoughts come back when I'm upset, this means that perhaps other things are still intact as well. Given this logic, my ability to experience pleasure and enjoyment may not be completely broken down either. These things could just be temporarily suppressed for whatever reason. Another weird thing is anhedonia hasn't numbed all my emotions. Fear, anger, embarrassment, sadness, and disgust are still present and for a lot of people anhedonia numbs even these things. Additionally, I still have the ability to care about stuff. However, this only seems to be the case for things I normally care about regardless. For the things I don't normally care about, anhedonia makes it even harder to do those things.
Did I mention that I haven't been bored since February? I've said I'm bored only because I can consciously recognize the situations in which I'd normally mention that. What I'm experiencing could have interesting implications for the future of studies on anhedonia, but at this rate, I'll be dead before science can back up anhedonia being able to do any of this.
Personally, I see anhedonia as being on a spectrum. I theorize that I have mild anhedonia. The cases I have been reading about are on the severe end of anhedonia.

@ Lerena: that's certainly... odd. I think you might be onto something with your idea of an anhedonia spectrum. It's a good sign that you're still able to care. Hopefully this will go on its own or with the right combination of meds.

I find that I struggle with the action of my stories and I'm not sure how to fix that. It's a bit more complicated than this so just learning how to use more action in my stories isn't going to be very beneficial until after I've found a fix to my primary problem.
There's a bit of information missing from my mind that tells me what I lack in order to progress the plot with actions. With YGO, the plot progresses with a card game, but I keep struggling to progress the plot with any form of action. Bringing in the card games is only a temporary solution that isn't realistic in the long-term. I'm not the kind of writer that can make card games interesting. While a few games here and there won't make things dull, I think writing a bunch of card game scenes would get repetitive after a while.
Sadly, because I seem to be missing something that helps flesh out my stories a bit, I'm not able to work on a fix for the problem at the moment. Plus, even though this post is supposed to be an attempt at describing the issue, I'm not sure anyone will be able to pick up on what my problem seems to be. My description here seems to be a bit vague and non-specific. It might be difficult to tell what I'm experiencing. Still, the problem has been impacting my ability to write and it's leaving me frustrated and worried that I may have to give up on writing forever.
This isn't just a casual issue either. The problem has destroyed my writing for a good 5 years.
If I knew what the problem was, I might be able to work on it. But all I know about it is nothing ever seems to happen in my stories, because I'm stuck on how to progress the plot properly, so I wind up with a bunch of dialogue and interactions that don't seem to accomplish anything.
Maybe one day I'll have a magical breakthrough that helps me get back into writing. I'll be waiting for a long, long time though.

@ Lerena: have you tried e.g. experimenting with the register you use, or limiting each word to one or two syllables, and using alliteration? I don't know if that would work to get you writing action scenes but it's a chance to experiment I guess...

What happened to my personality? This is not adulthood. This is bullshit. I'll admit in some ways I've matured. Let's keep the maturity but get back the fun times and hilarious nonsense. I don't know what happened, but at some point, I lost what made me feel human and now things are even worse since I have anhedonia.

Can't believe Eternal Con is this Saturday. Never been to this convention before, and I admit, I'm only going to meet Helen Slater. Actual Mai-Multiverse gatherings are set for August and October's cons. Still, maybe it'll be worth visiting in full next year.

At this point, my biggest challenge for finding a song will end up being a prophetic dream foretelling the creation of a song that has yet to come out and I will be looking for a song that won't be out until like 2024.

- I've already had to find obscure anime songs without being able to look up their lyrics due to not knowing enough Japanese to look it up.
- I've already had to find an instrumental piece of music.
- I've already had to find a song based on the melody, because I can't remember the lyrics well enough to look the song up on Google.

Ahem. It's about my life. You know, I'm sure we've all been down this road once or twice, and I know I am not the exception by any means. Basically my entire life is one big Fantasy Land. Like, I may as well be smoking grass or something, because my mind is already so far out of realities corners that there's not really much point other than maybe trying to do the impossible. I'm not even detailing what that impossible is because to be impossible in the first place, why even try to figure out its details, right? *Sigh*
So, basically I'm watching anime tonight. That is like immediately after playing PS4 games for like 4 hours. I'm doing an episode each right now of Shippuden, Ikkitousen (S1), Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040, Sailor Moon S (S3), Ranma 1/2 (S3), and that's not even getting into the manga's I'm reading for a few. MKR (S2) and Ranma 1/2 (Volume 1).
So... it's great. I mean. I love Anime. But not when I'm ACTUALLY BECOMING AN ANIME! X_X *Face Plants*
... Is there any hope for me? Wait, I think I can answer that myself. There ISN'T! I've been down this roar so many times. Besides a lot of anime tells true stories anyway! :3 It's like Yin and Yang between Fantasy and Reality!

How do I even have writing issues when I regularly come out with forum posts that are like 7 paragraphs long? It's not necessarily on this forum that the 7 paragraphs come out regularly, but there will come a day where you guys get to personally witness what I am talking about. It will come on a dark, stormy night. Suddenly, I will decide, "I'm bored" and probably revive some dead threads or something.
