Why do people never get tired of ShizNat?

I confess it's my first and only yuri ship :3

I think the obsession with this ship is because it was portrayed subtly by the creators, which leaves many interpretations for the fans :/

But I'm not complaining hehe

Yeah, I also believe the subtly is what drew initial attention. Yuri and gay couples in fiction today are sooooo forward now. We live in that era of having to shove things in people's faces. Mai-HiME was birthed in the mid-2000s, where gay communities were silent and held back. Filled with a more sense of sincerity and integrity. Shizuru's feelings for Natsuki were hidden (in the context of the story) for a long time until the big confrontation with Haruka and Yukino. Then you have Mai-Otome where ShizNat is already shipped, but instead of scenes of them making out like wild rabbits, we see them having conversations. We see their frustrations, worries and subtle ways they show affection with one another.

I actually lost interest in ShizNat because I was oversaturated with them - my obsession lasted 2 1/2 years and they were my first ship ever. Although they always had a place reserved in my heart as my first ship, I didn't think about them a lot for 4 years, I got invested in another fandom about 2 sisters being gay for each other (ahem), and as a side dish I had a little bit of Korrasami as well. I haven't been in a fandom for over a year now or shipped anything in earnest... a few days ago my passion for ShizNat resurfaced with a vengeance, triggered by a desire to seek out the Doropanda TOURS doujins. Now I'm back in ShizNat hell and the fandom is even more dead than it was in 2011-2013. Send help!

I first watched Mai-hime i think around 2008/2009 I was around 11/12 yrs old... the first scene that i saw was when Natsuki and Mikoto were fighting... when I saw Natsuki I became an instant fan. I didn't know that there's gonna be a ShizNat pairing so I was shocked when I saw the episode where Shizuru "did that" to Natsuki XD. I didn't know anything about yuri that time, so i researched and that's when I was introduced to the yuri world and the ShizNat fandom.

After 9 years or so, I'm still a fan... hahahaha. They will always be my number 1 yuri pairing!

Yes, it has been a long time, Moneypenny. The fandom has always been my own personal sandbox, so it doesn't matter to me whether it's dead or not. I am pleased to see my significant other grab the newest Doropanda Tours, though! On my side, I've gathered FUNimation's entire Mai-HiME/Otome Blu-Ray releases, so I can enjoy my glorious ShizNat in high definition.

Sounds like another thrilling introduction to the yuri genre! ShizNat does pop up as often as Sailor Moon's Haruka and Michiru when people tell me about their entering the yuri world. Their entire story felt so real, and it became an eye opener for some viewers who were going through their own sexuality exploration. I've heard it all, shiznat1579, but I never get tired of listening to you guys. This ship really is my favorite of all time.

You're absolutely right! I was just desperate to read new stories, but instead I started to plan my own stories, writing what I want to read. Funnily enough, I started to collect Doropanda's doujins last year by buying them from Mandarake. I can't read Japanese, but I still enjoy the drawings and it's nice to see that Nanzaki Iku is still producing stuff for ShizNat after drawing them for 13 years or so. Just a few days ago I ordered Doropanda's latest(?) ShizNat doujin that was sold at Comiket last year, along with some older TOURS doujins. It was shipped today and should arrive in 1 or 2 weeks since it is express mail. I honestly hope this artist never stops drawing for these two!

I wish I could get the HiME/Otome Blu-rays, but I don't have a Blu-ray player so it's not really an investment I can justify.

SAME HERE! I'm on board with Mandarake shopping ever since shezaei-neko brought it to my attention. Nanzaki Iku's artwork gets more and more stunning every year! She clearly labeled ShizNat as her "landmark" couple. She actually told our very own wetochan that many couples will come and go, but ShizNat will always be in her heart. Like celebrating a national holiday every year. I wish I could go to Comiket myself to get these new TOURS in person. But wetochan has a friend who goes every year to get them for her, so we all win.

HAHAHA! It's okay, moneypenny. The Blu-Rays do come with the DVD version inside. Worth the investment in the long run. BUT! If you want to support the series faster, you could pay to stream the entire series from FUNimation's website. That's more than enough!
