Occult Academy Discussion

Thanks to Cha-Chan (Charcoal of dA) and her fanart, she sparked my interest in a series called "Occult Academy." I quickly went ahead and watched the first episode. Very standard opening at first glance, but I was quite amused by the randomly placed Playstation buttons. X3 Oh Sony...

Luu Sky Sapphire reviews Occult Academy Episode 1:

We're introduced to the beautiful Maya Kumashiro and the mysterious "Occult Academy". She doesn't believe in the occult, so could she want her? Turns out Maya is the daughter of the now deceased, principal. We meet an old friend of Maya's named Ami as well. During the principal's funeral, an audio of his final words is played which eventually has him casting a spell to revive the dead...a "Lamie" of himself! Maya stops him ( <3 She's sooooo cooooool!!!!) and tries to convince the students of the academy that is was all a sham. It was no sham as her Lamie-daddy quickly revived and escaped.

We properly meet Naruse Kozue, one of Ami's friends at the Academy. She thanks Maya for saving her from the undead principal and questions what happened back there. Maya stubbornly insists it was staged. During a very cute flashback with Ami, we discover Maya believed in the occult as a child. Lamie-Kozue shows up out of nowhere and attacks, leaving Maya no choice but to cut off the head of the Lamie it first possessed. Ol' daddy-o.

The episode ends with Maya vowing to destroy the Academy before it causes ruin to the entire world. Suddenly a cell phone and a naked boy fall from the sky...what could this mean!? O_O I'm just as shocked as Maya.



Overall thoughts: This series has promised and I really like Maya a a character. She's sexy, bitchy and appears to be the only sane one in the entire Academy. lol While the occult and undead theme sounds dark, it was does have it's funny moments to break the ice. I can expect great things from a series like that. I'll review Episode 2 whenever I get the chance. Until then, discuss, share fanart, whatever, if you know about this series.

Well, this is one of my 9 animes with one new epi per week, I am watching right now @__@ I should wait before I write something to this anime, since I watched the current epi and could spoiler you ;0

Yeah, good idea. I'm eager to read your thoughts about the series. I have the 2nd and 3rd episodes on my PSP, I'll watch them on my way back home. If there's anything I'll need on my four hour trip it's an anime break.

Her voice(seiyuu) is "Hikasa Yoko" who was very famous from Mio - K-ON!
I have just watched for 2 episodes >.< so I can't tell now this anime is good or not but if compare with others.. I prefer this one. ^-^

^o^ Maya is one of those characters you instantly fall in love with. I know my potential women in new anime/manga. ^_~

Wow, I didn't know she was Mio. K-ON! is another fun anime which has been licensed recently I believe. GOOD! I want the DVD set so I can watch it properly. Enough of this watching on crunchyroll crap. >_<

I thought I missed something between epi 10 and 11, but I didn't. It was kind of "wtf just happend??", but I totally liked how it turned out. This was finally really fun to watch o_o And you know who can be badass, never thought that could happen XD
And I knew that there was something wrong with Mikaze. I thought she was somehow strange from the very beginning. I just didn't know what it was XD

It's been two years, but I finally finished Occult Academy this morning and holy jeebus...one of the greatest anime viewing experiences of my life. Expect a full review tomorrow! For now, here are pics of my new Occult Academy DVD set:





NIS America licensed the series in North America, but will only release on Blu-ray format with subtitles only. Well FUCKYOU, I'm got the bootleg DVD set with the fancy-smancy tin can case.
