Ga-Rei-Zero Discussion

Use this thread to discuss the awesome series Ga-Rei-Zero in all it's dramatic splendor. Before I share basic information like who my favorite characters are, I need to get the last two episodes off my chest, for I have recently completed the series. Here's what I said on Facebook:

Okay, just finished watching the last two episodes of Gai-Rei-Zero.

...hoo boy. SPOILERS AHEAD.

We finally get back on track AFTER the events of the MEANINGLESS-DEATH-OF-NATSUKI episode, where Yomi has Kagura at her mercy. Kagura's father intervenes and could of finished Yomi off if Kagura didn't hesitate. With her father dying before her, Kagura shares bonding time before she is given the powers of Byakuei. Very emotional scene btw, that whole scene shows the family life Kagura always wanted. How drastically we change in the face of death, huh?

Meanwhile, the "Shizuru clone" Ayame, Kiri and the rest of the Paranormal crew hunt down Yomi. I literally jumped from my seat when I saw Ayame kick Yomi's ass like whoa! Unfortunately their set up goes wrong and Yomi escapes once again. To my surprise later on, she doesn't kill Ayame and Kiri. I knew it as the deaths of Yomi's victims are normally seen and not off-camera.

In their last tangle, Kagura confronts Yomi with her brand new sword (very awesome concept!) Again she hesitates to do the right thing and kill Yomi, when it's so easy at this point. This frustrated Yomi as she knows Kagura's been given every advantage to kill her. So why doesn't she?! As a viewer, I felt that same frustration. ^^; The girl you knew, the one you shared a choco-pocky kiss...she's gone.

In an emotional climax, Yomi is finally killed. However the little shit that made Yomi go batshit insane is still alive. The prequel series ends on a high note, but a bitter one. All those poor people killed by Yomi have been avenged...so why don't I feel better?

Exactly.

Two years later, we see an older Kagura (beautiful long hair) with her new partner Kensuke (?) about to battle another one of Kazuhiro Mitogawa's monstrosities? Who knows, but I'll find out eventually. Now to follow the events of the manga.

Though this is a prequel, an unrealistic happy ending could of made this a stand alone series. Sometimes I wish it were as it left us hanging. On the plus side, seeing Ayame and Kiri together again brought me joy. ♥

;_; Very depressing ending to the series. Because of Yomi's final moments, I can somewhat forgive her for killing Natsuki. >_<

Oh! You like Noriyuki as well? I'm kinda pissed at him too, he could of killed Yomi but didn't. Obviously he couldn't do what the series itself quoted. "Will you kill someone you love because of love?

Nori's kinda a sissy coz he love Yomi too much. If you read the manga, you can see that he REGRETS it real bad that he didn't kill Yomi back then. But his foxies are cuties~<3

Puppeh gave me some insider details about the Ga Rei manga, but nothing much else. It's true that the yuri aspect from the prequel anime is gone in the manga right? XD

The main male character there, Kensuke, is a real Mikoto too. I'd rather have Kagura with Yomi or stay single for the rest of her life if the choice for a life partner is someone like him

I read the manga just to see Yomi's resurrection though, it's worth it. Kinda sad as well.

Izumi though! I like her X)). And yes, Luu, you read that right: Ga-Rei -Zero- has a Natsuki and Ga-Rei a Shizuru!

Kensuke is a....P-word (it got censored lol) And yea Shizuru was awesome. I cringed a little when her fingers were cut off though D8

Anime>Manga in my opinion.

I have to contradict myself as Yomi x Kagura isn't my favorite ship in the series. :) The best yuri couple in Ga-Rei-Zero is easily these two:











Ayame Jinguuji x Kiri Nikaidou are oddly the most romantic thing about Ga-Rei-Zero to me. o.o Ayame reminds me of Shizuru sometimes...

These two are one of the best things in the anime, and I'm kinda sad at how it ends for Kiri....though yes, she's cute, but it's sad nonetheless. Ayame's wheelchair rawks so hard!!

Now you make me want to watch Ga Rei Zero again Luu, and I've sworn not to watch it again too D8

Kiri's unfortunate result clearly doesn't mean the end of her romance with Ayame-sama~ If anything, her mental damage will only bring the two closer together. Ayame is so elegant, yet so gay. ^_____^ Just look at her in the second to last image I've provided.

Oh my fucking Lord in Heaven, yes. I didn't expect Ayame to put the boots....wheels...to Yomi like that. Sadly the lovely duo didn't succeed, but I'm glad they made it out alive...unlike poor Natsuki.

;p You have no one to blame but yourself, Dep. It's a great series; if it's been a long time, why not watch it again!

;_; It's tough getting by the first episode! I know what you mean though, Ga-rei-Zero is one of those special occasion anime. You can only watch it a few times in your lifetime. Once if it upset you THAT much, Miss Marshmallow heart. ;3

VERY tough ;____; it takes a lot just to suffer till the ending credits. And yes, it's a special occasion anime. I don't want to watch it too much and get myself numb to it's emotions. A few, special times when you're feeling so low and just want to cry yourself out xD.

Anyway, back on topic. Ga-Rei-Zero...saddest anime ever. The only anime that's ever made me cry! Actually, I rarely ever see my sis and we watched the series...it was my seconds time watching it, I still cried. Damn you animators making me cry like that! T^T Love you guys...

Moving on...yeah, poor Natsuki. She died just for a thrill. The entertainment world is oh so cruel. But since it was Yomi who killed her, it's all good. As you could tell Yomi is still my fav. character. F-KING HATE BUTTERFLY BOY (can't remember his name nor is it worthy enough to speak)! gr...

This is just me but...doesn't it seem that Kagura cries a little too much?
Oh, and for the whole Yomi and Kagura pairing...I'm sorry to say as a proud Yuri Fan that no, just no. They're forever sisters in my mind! Very loving ones...

Wow...that's the first time I've heard that...normally it's the other way around. Although I do agree with you, in this situation, the anime was way better then the manga.

It had it's moments but were not enough to make me like it.

Like I said before, I couldn't agree more. Normally, in almost every scenario, the manga/anime will leave you roughly satisfied but this? This made me disappointed.

Well, you have to remember that in the anime she was in middle school while in the manga it was highschool. But yeah, she looks way better. Damn you Ken...There are plenty of other idiotic guys why him? Dx

Lol, I concur. I don't really like Ken, I mean-- my god, that guy's.....just...gahhhh x_X. He's just like Ichigo, becoming that one guy who keeps getting powers and getting stronger and stronger.

I read the manga till the end just for Noriyuki and Yomi's sake. I don't really like Kagura there with all of her 'Ken-chan!' dependency =_=
