El Cazador de la Bruja Discussion Thread
El Cazador de la Bruja is the 3rd entry in Bee Train studio's "Girls-with-Guns" trilogy. It was dubbed in English by FUNimation Entertainment (who're better at dubbing then they used to be...). While I consider it the weakest of the three (Madlax is better structure-wise, and it's tough for a majority of anime to compete with Noir, so we won't even go there lol) it's a beautiful anime with a sleek story.
Like it's predecessors, the series is filled with mystery, incredible music and a character relationships. We're introduced to our two main heroines:
Meet Nadie:
A cute maverick bounty hunter with excellent firing skills. Her mission is to accompany her bounty, Ellis, and unlock the secrets of her past. Sounds awfully familiar huh?
: I have no idea what you're talking about.
Meet Ellis: Suspected of murder and showing signs of a unique power (having Witch DNA), Ellis is the target of many bounty hunters. Luckily for little Ellis, she's in the careful hands of Nadie.
Both girls form a closeness as the series progresses. To unlock the secrets of Ellis' past, the girls must travel south where all will be revealed.
I love this series, the whole desert atmosphere is so epic. A lovely change from Noir and Madlax. The characters are another welcome change. Take Nadie, who has a golden sense of humor and tries not to kill her opponents like Mireille and Madlax do. Ellis (Yessir!) is a lot like Kirika and Margaret, except more clueless a bit more liveliness. As always Yuki Kajiura does some of her finest work with the soundtrack as usual.
Since someone around here hasn't seen the series yet, I'll keep further spoilers on hush-hush and leave this thread open for discussion when the time comes.
Re: El Cazador de la Bruja Discussion Thread
I haven't watched this series yet, though I've really been wanting to. Actually, when I was debating on a series to buy, it was narrowed down to El Cazador de la Bruja, Mai-HIme, Burst Angel and something else that I can't think of at the moment... I guess you know which one I picked. ^^;;
El Cazador is higher up on the list of things to buy, however. x3 I also think the art looks really nice. <3

The art is just the beginning! The entire series is a marvel to watch and it's really epic in that Thelma and Louise way. Ah, yuri. Pick up this and Burst Angel whenever you get the chance!
Hoo-hum, how can I get you guys interested in El Cazador...oh I know! The main heroine Nadie has this awesome Amigos Tacos song:
Porque, Nadie? Porque?! XD On top of that, the guards didn't find you sexy at all.

I watched El Cazador, a summer or two ago, I can't remember anything, but I loved it! Although I kind of wanted L.A. to get stabbed 37 times in the chest, and it did get a little dull a couple times but other than that I really loved watching this one.

I can't stand L.A. Every time she said Ellis' name, I wanted to kick his little ass. Damn obsessed creep. Plus he didn't really serve any real purpose, other than being a stalker. ^^;
The character in the series for me? Blue-Eyes aka Jody Hayward.
She reminds me a lot of Vanessa Rene from Madlax. A woman risking it all and getting into some deep trouble. All I know is that I'm always intrigued by the female characters that want to uncovering dark secrets and eventually go rouge.

Seriously! He had no use besides upsetting the viewers! And Blue-eyes is pretty awesome, after all, it's because of her there was a happy ending to the series!

He was Cazador's version of Nagi (Mai HiME version). Show up randomly, start talking and say absolutely nothing! Nothing important anyway. ^^;
Blue-Eyes was a major factor in the journey of Nadie and Ellis. The episode where she had to kill Nadie was brilliant. There was so much symbolism and personal character-driven moments.
Re: El Cazador de la Bruja Discussion Thread

Lirio, yup. I find her to be extremely creepy.
Nadie is awesome, albeit a man hater. ;p Did you ever watch any of the Bee Train Girls-with-Guns series before Cazador, like Madlax or Noir?
Re: El Cazador de la Bruja Discussion Thread
I have seen Noir, but I couldnt find Madlax with its original Japanese voice with eng subtitles... so I never watched Madlax... >.>;;
Re: El Cazador de la Bruja Discussion Thread
Nadie was my favorite, Ellis was so cute in her learning new things. She showed a lot of love and jealousy at times. XD
Blue eyes was pretty neat too.
Like most of you L.A creeped me out over his Ellis fascination.
Of the girls with guns trilogy:
Noir
El Cazador de la bruja
Madlax
that's the order for me.
I can't stand madlax dubbed but my eyes are getting too bad now for subbed. but i enjoyed the subbed version.

Darn! That's too bad, Kiros! The Madlax dub by ADVFilms wasn't half bad! Noir's dub was a lot better, but I think they did a great job with Madlax too. Was there anything specific you didn't like in particular? The way Madlax, Vanessa, Elenore, etc. sounded?Kiros Razer wrote:

Maybe then I was used to subs, I even started giving Noir's dub a chance over the years. i hate revolutionary girl utena's dubs their voices annoy me. i don't think it was that it in madlax though. i own the dubs, i should give it a chance though.it maybe a voice of one of them though.Luu Sky Sapphire wrote:Darn! Revolutionary Girl Utena's dubs were pretty bad, I agree there. Software Sculptors did the dubbing for Utena, the same people who did the Slayers TV series dubs. I mean,when you hear Pokemon voice actresses (Rachel Lillis) voicing Miss Tenjou, you mind gets to explode. o.o She wasn't a bad Utena I guess, she was just too cute to voice her.

Some voices I get very particular with and some dubbws voices get so annoying. and you think that character wasn't THAT annoying or would not sound sound a certain way.Luu Sky Sapphire wrote:

Haha! Well staying on topic, what were your feelings on El Cazador's English dub? Which was the only Bee Train Girls-With-Girls entry that was done by FUNimation and not ADVFilms.Kiros Razer wrote:Some voices I get very particular with and some dubbws voices get so annoying. and you think that character wasn't THAT annoying or would not sound sound a certain way.
I thought it was decent enough. Nadie (Trina Nishimura), Blue Eyes (Clarine Harp) and Ellis (Maxey Whitehead) sounded great! The rest were about average.
