Maybe they were going with the ever cliché, "Only the true hero can fight the final boss? Or "Only I'm allowed to fight you, Kakarot." trope.

Maybe. I don't have a problem with Arika being the only one who can beat Harmonium Nina, it makes sense. It just could of dedicated an entire episode to her training. Instead, we can assume she is the strongest now after off-screen training. Kind of similar to Star Wars with Luke Skywalker. Luke could barely keep up with Vader in Episode V and then is too strong for Vader in Episode 6, even though training with Yoda was incomplete. XD Moving on.
