Sadly, Black Jack only makes a cameo in the first and last episode of the series. The story focuses mostly on Ray herself. Don't let that discourage you, it's a VERY good series even with the absence of BJ. It has one of the most powerful final episodes in anime. Give it a chance! :)

I will say one thing. When Black Jack does appear, his words and actions mean something for Ray as a character. As an early spoiler you'll discover quickly, he is the one who gives Ray her super enhanced eyes so she can become a doctor. His gift is now hers to offer her patients.
