Author’s Note: This fan fiction is the third prize for the Mai-Multiverse contest at deviant ART and the fan fiction is for acidraw at deviant ART, who won at third place. He requested that the fan fiction be an Alternate Universe, where Mai and Natsuki switch roles. So this fan fiction will be more of a manga universe because of the image I once saw where Natsuki has Mai’s elements etcetera. Please be gentle with me, I just did this and mostly based this on a Mai-HiME subbed episode 1. I don’t have any plans on continuing this but this is split up into two chapters. First half is up for reading folks. Read & Review people!
The ferry ship was sailing slickly across the wide sea. Seagulls were soaring above the sky; the people inside the ship were chatting about their trip; and the cool, refreshing sea breeze touching the warm bodies of the passengers in the ferry.
A blunette girl walked to a bench which was occupied by a small blonde girl. She held a cup of water and gave it to the little blonde girl. “Here,” said the blunette.
“Ah! Thanks big sister,” the small girl said.
The blunette sat along with her little sister. “Feeling better already?” she asked.
“I somehow think so,” replied the little blonde girl.
“I told you riding a ship would be cutting it closer. You’re prone to motion sickness, yet you still love to travel,” the blunette said. The blonde chuckled. “But I’m enjoying it though.”
“Well,” the blunette said and stretched her arms. “The air’s fresh. It’s good for your health,” she added.
“I hope it will be nice,” the little blonde girl said.
“What do you mean?”
“The new school,” the blonde replied. Then, the ship started to pass by a beautiful bridge connecting two islands. All of the passengers were truly amazed at the sight they were passing by.
“That’s amazing! I’m really glad I came on a ship!”
“You know, we didn’t come here just for sight-seeing,” the blunette remarked. When the ferry had been meters away from the ship, the blunette started to see some red star on the clear morning sky. The blunette’s eyes widened in astonishment by the sight she had seen.
“Big sister, what are you looking up there?”
“You know, today’s sky is bright and red,” the blunette replied to her little sister. The little blonde rubbed her eyes and looked carefully in the sky. “I don’t see something I shouldn’t.”
The blunette chuckled. “You see, it’s one of those things that only honest people can see,” the blunette tried to explain. Then, the little girl noticed something on the water. “Hey big sister, do you see that?”
“See what?” the blunette asked.
“See, over there,” the blonde responded and pointed to the water. There was a kid of her early thirteen, floating in the water. Commotion began to stir up in the whole ship they rode.
The ferry ship’s crew decided to save the drowned girl from the waters. They had to set up the emergency boat and paddled all the way to the girl’s place. They hoisted her up to the boat and traveled back to the bigger ship. The emergency boat was lifted up until the ship’s deck.
“She’s not breathing!” one crew member said.
“Look, she’s holding something here!” the other said.
“What now… Hey you,” the head rescuer pointed to a blonde with long sideburns guy, “Can you hold the girl for a while?”
“Y-Yes!” He held the girl by the arms tightly while the crew tries to remove the dangerous thing that was held by the rescued girl.
“Seriously, why is she holding a thing like that,” the head rescuer said.
“Man, she’s holding it too tight,” one complained. Fingers were removed from the weapon.
“There, it’s alright now,” announced the head rescuer. Then suddenly, the pulleys that were supporting the emergency boat were split into two and its passengers fell to the waters. It was a good thing they were wearing life jackets.
“Don’t worry about us! What matters is that to restore the girl’s breathing!” one crew shouted.
“W-what?” the blonde with sideburns guy said and lifted the girl up to the deck. He was surrounded with people staring at him.
“Umm, CPR… Does anyone know here how to do CPR?” the sideburns guy shouted. There was no response. Though the blunette looked like she wanted to help but she didn’t came closer.
“Damn it.” The guy wiped his lips and he leaned slowly to do the CPR but he was pushed by his younger companion. She was a girl of thirteen also with a colored dark pink hair and she had twin ponytails on each side of her head. The girl was annoyed to what his bigger companion doing.
“No!!!”
“Why did you have to do that?” the sideburns guy complained.
“Your eyes look indecent!”
“It is not! Now let me do it!”
“No!!! I won’t let you do indecent things,” nagged the girl.
“It is not indecent!” They two quarreled until the blunette decided to do the CPR and came out of the crowd and said, “I’ll do it!” She noticed something on the arm of the girl. She was interrupted by the blonde guy.
“You must hurry up,” he reminded.
“I know.” The blunette started to check the heartbeat of the young girl; she opened the girl’s mouth and blew air into it and made 30 contractions to the chest. She repeated this once more and then, the rescued girl coughed up the water she drank. All people were amazed to the blunette skill in doing such feat.
Few minutes later, the pulleys were fixed and the rescuers laid the girl unto a stretcher and delivered her to the infirmary. The rescuers gave a sign of thanks to the blunette and the sideburns guy.
“You’re incredible. Really, thanks,” the blonde said to the blunette.
“It’s not really, but I never thought that emergency rescue classes I took would become handy like this,” the blunette said. Then all of a sudden, the blunette sneezed. “Ah, geez. I’m all wet.” The blunette put her arms around her chest and the sideburns guy was startled with the scenery.
“Here, you’ll get sick,” the little blonde girl said and gave her older sister her own coat.
“Ah, thank you…” the blunette thanked then she noticed the sideburns guy was staring at her chest.
“What are you doing?”
“N-n-no!! I wasn’t staring at them!”
“No, you are! What’s with you anyway? You’re the worst!” the blunette said and turned away. The sideburns guy’s companion became suspicious once more.
‘No, I was… What? So what?” the guy asked.
“Indecent,” his companion said to him.
“No, I’m not!”
“Not no!”
In the middle of the night, a small boat was at shore. A redhead girl was standing on the boat with her right hand on her arm. A man’s voice began to say, “That girl, she probably got picked up by the ferry.”
“What?” the redheaded girl turned around and said, with the same mark the girl had on her right arm only that it is in her left lower back.
Back in the ferry ship’s infirmary room, the rescued girl was mumbling something, her arm stretched upward, “Mi...ro...ku…” It suddenly fell when the room was opened, revealing a wet black sword coming inside, the door creaking back closed.
The blunette got to her room in the deck and just got out of the shower room. She wore a bathroom gown and she sat on her bed. She put her hand to her bag and looked at a familiar picture of her family with her little sister who’s much younger. She smiled at the picture and proceeded to check on her belongings. She saw her sister’s belongings, and saw a small white box. She went to her sister’s bed and opened it. There were three divisions with pills inside. The blunette sighed.
“Alyssa, you forgot to drink your lunchtime dosage,” the blunette mumbled to herself. “Honestly.” She put her sister’s medicinal pack on her pocket and went back to her bed.
Then, her bathroom gown sank down a bit revealing her cleavage. She noticed something on her right chest, there was a mark similar to the girl she saved.
“Huh?” Then, she remembered what she had done to the girl she had to perform a mouth-to-mouth procedure. Her face blushed into a beet red and got embarrassed at the thought.
She put her hand hard to the wall and murmured to herself, “So that’s what it means… That was my first kiss. No, that doesn’t count! It was for saving a life, for saving a life! That was not definitely a first kiss…?”She rushed to check her belongings.
“Oh, crap. That’s right, my change of clothes.” She looked on her right. There was her school uniform. “Should I say that I had no other choice?” She stood up and undressed herself.
Back in the reception room, the sideburns guy with his companion along with Alyssa (the blunette’s little sister) were discussing quietly at a small table.
“I see, so while you’re transferring, you’re using the vacation to travel,” said the sideburns guy.
“Yes,” Alyssa confirmed.
“Hmm. So, what school?” the sideburns guy asked Alyssa politely.
“It’s a private school-“
“Alyssa!” The voice came from another person. The sideburns guy and the twin ponytailed girl looked up in the stairs to see whose voice is it, to find out it is the blunette wearing a familiar school uniform to the guy.
“I’ve searched all over for you, you know,” the blunette frankly said.
“Big sister, that outfit…”
“Ah, this? I have all of my changes in the big suitcase,” the blunette replied and went down.
“So you’re transferring to our school?” the sideburns guy said.
“Then?”
“Yeah, we’re students of the Fuka Academy as well,” the sideburns guy responded.
“Yeah,” the blunette responded in astonishment.
“Enjoy,” the waitress said as she gave the tea to the passengers.
“I’m sorry that my big brother did something weird a while ago,” the twin ponytailed girl apologized.
“I’m telling you I didn’t,” the guy said.
“Oh, my name is Alyssa Kuga. I will be entering my first year in junior high. I’m sorry about my bigger sister,” Alyssa said.
“Why?” the blunette reacted.
“I’m Yuuichi Tate, I will be entering my first year of high school,” the sideburns guy whose name is Yuuichi introduced himself. His companion held his arm tightly and introduced herself cheerfully, “I’m Shiho Munakata, second year in junior high!”
“H-Hey!” Yuuichi irritatingly said.
“Oh, so your parents…”
“Eh? Ah, no, it’s not like that. We’re just childhood friends, you know,” Yuuichi explained.
“Eh? You’re not siblings?” the blunette shocking said.
“NO!” Yuuichi angrily said.
“But he’s my big brother,” Shiho said.
“And you’re still traveling alone with him?” the blunette asked.
“Yep!” Shiho happily said.
“I said quit it, already,” Yuuichi embarrassingly reminded Shiho. Shiho hugged Yuuichi’s arm tightly and the blunette whispered to Alyssa, “Wow, so it’s true that country folks are more advanced.”
Alyssa replied, “Big sister, that’s rude.”
“NO! She just tagged along! I’m very troubled,” Yuuichi pointed out to his companions.
“Troubled?” Shiho said, her eyes full of remorse and longing. Shiho started to cry.
“He made her cry, he made cry,” the blunette whispered again to Alyssa.
“You’re being rude, I tell you,” Alyssa reminded her big sister.
“And you are?” Yuuichi asked.
“Oh, I’m Natsuki. Natsuki Kuga, fully truly her big sister. On a side note, I’ll be transferring into first year of high school. Nice to meet you,” Natsuki the blunette said.
“Agh, same year?” Yuuichi said, his palm on his forehead.
“Look here. That’s my line,” Natsuki said.
A member of the ferry ship’s crew noticed them and said, “There they are. Hey, you four over there.”
Out in the shores, the small boat before was speedily coming to the ferry ship in full speed and inside, the driver of the speedboat said, “I see it, it’s there.”
The redhead who was wearing now a helmet and a tight-fitting motorcycle suit nodded in response.
“But, you know if the captain wants to thank us for saving someone, can’t he come to us?” Natsuki said while walking.
“Look outside,” Yuuichi said. “With this fog outside, he can’t possibly leave the bridge.”
“What’s up with that attitude huh?” Natsuki said.
Yuuichi turned around and said, ‘Because everything comes out of your mouth is a complaint. I’m sick of listening to them. ‘It costs so much, the salary of the waitress is whatever…’ They’re none of my business.”
Natsuki was offended and replied, “I’m trying to provide you, molester-offender, with an atmosphere for us to get along. So inconsiderate.”
Yuuichi stepped back and said, “W-who’s a molester? That’s what you just think! It’s called being overly self-conscious.”
“Sure, sure, I would be overly self-conscious, allowing your friend to call you big brother especially toward dangerous people like that,” Natsuki responded to Yuuichi.
“I already told you it’s not like that!”
“I’m just telling it like I see it.”
The speedboat zoomed faster and it alarmed the crew security.
“Cruiser from rear point side?”
“Captain!”
The captain ordered the crew, “Starboard, emergency evasion!”
The boat was suddenly rotated to the right, trying to stop any stranger from entering the ferry. Yuuichi fell into Natsuki’s legs. Natsuki fell to the ground, and saw a wolf-like shadow in the darkness of the night.
“What was that?” Yuuichi tried to lift his head up, only for it to meet Natsuki’s breasts. Natsuki’s breasts fell down; meeting Yuuichi’s face and both of them blushed. Natsuki stood up and said to Yuuichi, “Idiot, molester, hentai!”
“No, it was an accident, accident,” Yuuichi apologized. A person wearing a tight-fitting motorcycle suit came behind Yuuichi and knocked his lights out. The person walked in front of Natsuki only for Natsuki to walk back and tried to run away. The girl caught Natsuki’s arm and locked her.
“You should have picked up a girl with a sword. Where is she?” the woman said to Natsuki coldly.

Please be gentle with me, I just did this and mostly based this on a Mai-HiME subbed episode 1. I don’t have any plans on continuing this but this is split up into two chapters. Second half is up for reading folks. Read & Review people!
The speedboat rounded about the ferry and that made the crew worried so much.
“Damn it, what do they want? How about the message to the security?” the captain said.
“No signal, sir. It seems to be jammed.”
“That ship…”
The pager was turned on and a female voice was heard.
“To those on board, the current is rough.”
Natsuki was pushed to the door of the relief station room hard by the stranger.
“What do you think of doing?” Natsuki asked, not meeting the stranger’s eyes. Her hair was grabbed forcefully by the stranger and set her head down. “No!” Natsuki muttered.
Something materialized onto the hands of the stranger, taking form of guns. The stranger got hold of them in mid-air and kicked the door above Natsuki’s head. The stranger entered the room and aimed the guns in front of her but there was no one inside the room.
“What?” the stranger muttered in her breath. What she didn’t know was that her target was above her. Natsuki gasped as the young girl whirled her sword towards the stranger. The young girl has black hair, her eyes were golden yellow perhaps, and she wore a necklace with obsidian colored bead at the end.
Unfortunately, her target was able to avoid the attack in time. The sword that hit the flooring suddenly flashed and the floor got a big hole.
“Ow. Damn it, she nailed me,” Yuuichi mumbled as he grimaced in pain.
“What’s that sound?” a security guard of the ferry said.
“It came from this way, around room 10,” said the other.
“Huh?” Yuuichi then glanced around him. Natsuki wasn’t around. “Where is she?”
The three girls fell to the entrance of the parking lot.
The black-haired girl rolled on her side, and glanced up only for her sword to be stepped on and a gun pointed at her forehead. The stranger got her.
“Seriously, what a trouble-maker you are.” The stranger’s helmet broke in half, revealing her face. Her hair was ruby red, and her eyes were astounding purple. At her back was Natsuki, quite disoriented from her fall. Natsuki hurried to get up and quickly ran to hide behind a truck.
“Why don’t you understand that they’re taking advantage of you?” the redhead said. The yellow-eyed girl gritted her teeth.
“We can’t allow them to gather us up anymore. HiME to that land of the Fuuka!”
The small girl growled and tried to roundhouse kick the redhead but she jumped back and shunned the attack.
“Quit it!”
The small girl dragged her sword in a circular motion and swirled it, hitting the truck that was Natsuki’s hiding place above her head and split up into two. The small girl’s opponent jumped even before the attack touched her. The redhead slid to the floor as the girl with the sword put herself in offensive mode.
“HiME?” Natsuki repeated the unfamiliar word.
“Not worth interrogating, eh? Then I’ll go all out too.” A blue circle appeared below the redhead. The redhead twirled her guns in such a way that she caught it in mid-air like she previously did and turned around and called out, “Duran!” Ice began to emerge out and a silver mechanical wolf with two cannons on its shoulders appeared and shook its head.
Natsuki gasped at the scene. “Go!” the redhead said and the wolf lunged at the girl with the black sword. Her opponent was also ready to attack as she swirled her sword and hit the mechanical wolf, only for her weapon to be caught and whirled in the air. Natsuki watched this scene in a state of shock and did not move on her position.
The small girl was thrown to the split truck. The mechanical wolf was loading a cartridge to its cannons, preparing for an attack. The small girl ran away as well as Natsuki to be out of harm’s way. The wolf fired shots endlessly. The small girl got hit and screamed. Meanwhile, Natsuki ran behind the truck to be out of harm’s way.
An explosion occurred to the parking lot of the ferry.
A crew and Yuuichi ran to it to check someone but the entrance blew smoke and fire.
“Fire!” Yuuichi said.
“Watch out!” the crew man said.
The sprinkler system was automatically turned on. Red lights flashed all over the lot.
The redhead ran away to the fire exit along with the mechanical wolf called Duran. The girl managed to survive the explosion and was wet. She started to pursuit the redhead while Natsuki ducked her head for safety. She stood up, all dazed to all of the things she witnessed.
“What in the world is this?” She walked slowly to the ramp.
The pager turned on once more, its announcer having a male voice.
“To those on board, we have a fire at the bottom of the ship.”
“You must hurry too,” reminded the crew member.
“Y-Yeah,” Yuuichi slowly followed but he saw Natsuki walking at the place the fire was coming from.
“She’s… hey!” Yuuichi called to Natsuki. Natsuki glanced up, seeing Yuuichi.
“Staff members will be guiding you, so please calm down and evacuate without panicking.”
A balloon ladder was inflated so the passengers could slide down to one of the balloon rafts at bay.
“You guys must hurry,” the head rescuer said to Alyssa.
“But my sister hasn’t…”
“My big brother isn’t here yet,” Shiho complained.
“They’re probably on some boat already,” the other said.
“Hurry,” the head rescuer said.
“But,” Alyssa said.
“My big brother is…” Shiho added.
“Don’t worry,” the other rescuer assured them. They pushed them down to the slide and they got in a boat.
Yuuichi pulled Natsuki out of the burning lot. “There we go.”
Natsuki made a sigh of relief and glimpsed at Yuuichi, “Thank you.”
“No problem.” Their faces were really close and Yuuichi blushed a bit but Natsuki elbowed him in the face and screamed in dismay.
“No, what was that?”
“Hey, excuse me,” Yuuichi interrupted but he was pushed away.
“What is it?! Tell me! I said tell it to me!” Natsuki said while pounding Yuuichi’s back with her fists.
‘What are you talking about?”
“Tell me, tell me, and tell me!”
A few minutes later, they got up and started to walk fast.
“That really hurt,” Yuuichi said while rubbing the back of his neck.
“Well, let’s call it even now,” Natsuki said. “No more debts to each other.”
“What are you talking about?”
“About sexual harassment,” Natsuki replied.
“It was not!” Yuuichi corrected her.
“I’m telling you I’ll forget about it,” Natsuki assured him. They were able to run back up to the reception area but there was no one inside. Natsuki muttered, “Alyssa.”
“Looks like everyone evacuated,” Yuuichi said.
“I can’t just wait to see what happens next,” Natsuki said. “Say, what’s Fuka Academy like? It’s not a suspicious school at all, is it?”
Yuuichi made a glimpse to Natsuki and replied, “Like hell it is. It is an ordinary school.”
“Okay, I’ll be going to an ordinary school starting tomorrow,” Natsuki said to herself in determination.
“C’mon, let’s go. Don’t tell me you forgot something,” Yuuichi said.
A memory returned to Natsuki’s mind. Her little sister’s medicine box! It was left on their compartment.
“Oh, crap.”
“You,” Yuuichi said. He saw Natsuki running to the staircase quickly. “Yo!”
The redhead jumped away from her opponent.
Duran leapt to the girl, who was attacking using her sword. Sparks appeared at the ship’s deck. The girl was hit by Duran and fell to the floor. Before she could even attack, Duran hit her and fell again. Up above, she saw the redhead aiming the gun t her head again.
“This is your last chance. Depart from this land,” the redhead said coldly.
“It’s not here. Not here. Why!” Natsuki said, while she was trying to find Alyssa’s medication pills.
“How could I know?”
“Really,” Natsuki mumbled.
“What are you searching for anyway?” Yuuichi asked.
“A small case with pills inside,” Natsuki said in panic.
Yuuichi used his feet to lift small lingerie that covered a small case.
The girl pinched the redhead’s ear and pushed her away. She dove for her sword and got it with ease. She made a circle around her and put her sword’s blade perpendicular to her. Two eyes came out of the blades.
The redhead was about to aim her guns to her opponent when she noticed the strands of hair to her right hand. She blushed at her consternation. She flipped her hair with her right hand and called her wolf. “Duran, load Silver Cartridge. Fire!”
The cannons were aimed to the little girl.
The little girl drew a circle around her like she did and dipped the sword in its origin, where a small black hole appeared.
“You mean this?” Yuuichi inquired.
“That’s it!” Natsuki exclaimed.
All of a sudden, a blinding light appeared in between the two teenagers. Natsuki fell down.
“Ow.” The two teens saw each other and they were slowly separated. Both of them were totally confused. Natsuki tried to follow Yuuichi but the shore waters prevented her to do so.
“What???” she just said.
“Hey!” she called to Yuuichi. “Give that to Alyssa! You’re in charge.”
“Sure, if I’m alive,” Yuuichi said and ran away.
On the emergency boats, passengers took photos of the split ship.
“No way. I’m not going to die!” Natsuki said while she was able to go to the deck of the ferry. She rolled out flawlessly, but she saw the little girl she saved go to her arms. The mechanical wolf howled and was about to attack when Natsuki put her arms in front of her. She wasn’t harmed because of a tomoe flame shield.
“Duran?” the redhead stepped back. “That’s…” Two whirling things began to surround Natsuki.
“This…”
“Hey!” the redhead called and shot her but she was protected by the tomoe flames. She was surprised she wasn’t hurt.
“So that’s the deal. You see that star too,” The redhead said. The tomoe disappeared and Natsuki frowned.
“That liar. So it’s as they planned after all,” the redhead said angrily. “Hey, you! This is a warning. Don’t go to Fuka Academy. If you do, you’ll die.” The redhead turned around and left. Duran followed after its mistress.
“Die,” Natsuki repeated. She felt unbalanced as the other half of the ship started to sink down. She and the other girl started to slide down to the waters. They fell down quickly as did the ferry.
Yuuichi watched this scene from afar, holding tight to the emergency boat where Shiho and Alyssa were located.
‘Then, she’s still…?”
“Big sister! It can’t be!” Alyssa said. “Big sister!”
Far away from the sinking ferry, a young lad of his early teens woke up with a book on his face. He looked tired and said, “I’m tired of from all this waiting. Seriously. But anyway, Natsuki HiME and one other person: arrival. Well now, preparation, preparation.” The young lad said, as he put his book on his head and walked in circles and fell.
The next day, peacefulness reigned. A purple butterfly fluttered towards Natsuki’s face that made her awake. She got up and saw the young girl. They were surrounded by smoke and a ring of small flames. Not only that, but a hoard of people.
“Huh?” she saw a bald lane coming from the sea. They were being talked about by the students of the academy.
“This place is?” Natsuki muttered. A chestnut haired lady with crimson eyes, a young man wearing a black and red striped suit and a yellow haired lady stood confused by the scenery they are currently seeing.
“It can’t be.”
“She’s…” Yuuichi breathed.
“What the?!” Natsuki screamed in distress.

Not bad at all, Ruby-chan! Reviving the concept of Alyssa as Natsuki's sister from the manga is a breath of fresh air. My only slight complaint is that Natsuki acted a little too much like Mai and vice versa. Other than that, it was entertaining and overall good considering you did this as a contest prize. b^o^d

Oh, is that so? Well, sorry about that. I have a certain image that made me do so to make Natsuki act much like Mai and Mai acting too much like Natsuki:

Who gives a fuck what those people think. We enjoy it; mission accomplished. I would ship Tate with Natsuki, if I had the chance to write about them, without hesitation. :)

Natsuki and Yuuichi are so together in the manga <3 Okay it's a three way (MAIIIIII!!!); but I prefer TatNat in the manga.

The Mai-Series did build itself on it's yuri following, but that doesn't mean we can't break the rules. :) Besides, people tend to forget there were hetero relationships in the anime and manga series. Hard to ignore them when couples likes TatMai and Arika/Sergay/Nina took center stage in their respective incarnations.
