I actually thought for a while that Miss Maria might be related to Laura due to the similarities in personality and a slight similarity in facial features, very slight

I have to say she does look of Arabic descent, so tanned in complexion sure, but not black

I agree. There doesn't seem to be any purely African-American Otome in the series then. They *may* have been around in the past during Maria's youth. I'd like to believe Garderobe is complete in terms of having a multinational Otome order.

that would make the most sense as Gaderobe does seem to be the elite Otome academy and has trained most, if not all of the Otome we know in the series

Even in other anime titles where they also have people from other parts of the world, it's rare to see a black character.

Correct, Noob (soawkwardcallingyouthat). Anyways, while it's off-topic, I still believe the Otome of the past were much stronger than the current ones. Maria comes from a generation where the Otome took their role way seriously (training as an Otome during the war kinda does that). With the exception of Maria, Lena and Arika in their strongest forms.
