I've decided to shove the opening exposition scene from the first episode of Mai-Otome 0~S.ifr~. Just for reference and discussion to further explore the Mai-Otome universe. The receive the following information (THIS IS DIRECTLY FROM THE EPISODE):

Once upon a time, the humans who survived the last all-out war, would travel from star to star and even build planets.
Much of that technology was sealed away, and this world was entrusted to Otomes. Girls who wield supernormal powers by sharing their lives with their Masters, the guardians of world order.
After numerous wars, the lives of many Kings and Otomes were lost, but a fatal blow to mankind has been kept at bay.

Hahaha! I still want to see an entire OVA based around Monica and Maria's relationship. All we really know about Monica is that she was killed by something that looks like Sara and Mahya's love child. :shock:
