It's a fucked up situation for any man in love, but it makes for a great story. Nothing against Takumi as the Obsidian Lord, the guy was more sadistic than Reito ever was. But Mai being the OL would of come out of left field, making the confrontation more engaging. Whether the result is Tate killing Mai or bringing her back to the good side via Deus Ex Machina, I would be sold.

I see Mai using the power to make the world a better place for her brother and getting carried away with it and going drunk on power and eventually the storyline could turn into X-3 with Mai turning into what Jean Grey did and Tate, possibly doing the Wolverine route and mercy killing her.

What if: after the Obsidian Lord's defeat, the two HiME of the Three Greatest Young Beauties (excluding Mai) loved Takumi, but this time, they want to make him all theirs instead of them being his (and no, they are not fighting each other over the choice, and concentrate almost solely on him) in a time where he is almost shattered and trying to come to terms with what happened?

(Sorry, that's one possible scenario I just can't get out of my head, alongside a few possible scenarios of what was happening to him after the defeat of the OL)

It sdounds like an idea for a harem sory or even a shojo romance....not that I read those mind you. :oops:
